We welcome a new cohort of pupils in the Sixth Form each year to study A-levels or International Baccalaureate (IB)

Sixth Form enquiries can be made at any stage however the Sixth Form application process take place during the Autumn Term of Year 11, which enables students to know decisions by the end of this term so that they can concentrate on their GCSE examinations.

Sixth form information Afternoons

Our in-person Information Afternoons give you an opportunity to find out more about Sixth Form life and meet staff and students.

The afternoons include:

  • Talks from our Head, Richard Jones, and the Assistant Head (Sixth Form), Liz Thornton
  • A tour of the School with a Sixth Form pupil
  • Talks on the academic and pastoral structures of the School with Tutorial Staff
  • An opportunity to talk to Heads of Department about subject specifics

Applying for a place

Applications for the Sixth Form are accepted a year in advance of entry and fall into two categories – standard entry and entry via a Scholarship.  We offer the following Scholarships for Sixth Form entry: Academic, Art, Music, Performing Arts and Udall (Sport). For both standard entry and entry via Scholarship the deadline for applications for entry in September 2025 is 15 October 2024.

To apply for a place for your child you will need to complete a registration form and submit this along with the £250 registration fee.

SECURING A SIXTH FORM PLACE

For standard entry, we expect candidates to attend one of our three Test and Interview Days. For candidates applying for Sixth Form entry in September 2024 our Test and Interview will be held on Friday 3rd November, Wednesday 8th November and Friday 10th November.

For entry via a scholarship, candidates will be expected to attend the applicable Scholarship assessment day(s), further information can be found in our Sixth Form Scholarship brochure.

As part of the application process your child will sit a CAT4 test as well as undertake interviews with our academic staff, along with any relevant Scholarship assessments if your child is applying for entry via a scholarship. After completing the admissions process, our team will carefully consider your child's application to determine if we can offer them a place at our school.

Frequently asked questions about joining in Sixth Form

  • Q When do we apply?  

    A

    Applications are accepted from September the year before entry. Test and Interview Days and Scholarship assessment days are in November. The first round of offers is made on 1 December and other offers may be made later in the academic year, dependant on spaces being available.

  • Q How many do you admit to the sixth form?  

    A

    Numbers vary each year, but we usually admit between 20 and 30 pupils.

  • Q What are the entry requirements?  

    A

    Candidates sit GL Assessments CAT4. In addition, pupils are expected to achieve 40 or more GCSE points. International pupils should have IELTS at 6.0 or equivalent. Most heads of department recommend at least a grade 7 at GCSE for subjects relevant to sixth form study.

  • Q Do you offer A levels or the IB?

    Bryanston offers A levels, CTECs and the IB at sixth form. View our sixth-form courses guide for 2024/25.

  • Q Do you offer scholarships and bursaries?  

    A

    Scholarships are worth up to 10% remittance of the fees. Bursaries are all means-tested.

  • Q Do I have to pay a deposit to secure my child's place?  

    A

    A deposit of £2000 is payable on acceptance of the offer of a place in the sixth form.

    For non-UK resident parents, an additional deposit of a full term’s fees is payable at point of acceptance. 

  • Q Is there an opportunity for my child to experience Bryanston before they join the School?  

    A

    In the final week of the Summer Term we hold a Sixth Form Induction Week, giving our new Sixth Form students a chance to stay at Bryanston for five days. Giving them the opportunity to:

    • Live in the boarding house
    • Meet their tutor
    • Experience their sixth form subjects
    • Get to know their year group
  • Q How do I apply for a place in the sixth form (year 12) from overseas?
