Runners compete at English Schools' Championships

Bryanston runners have competed at the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships in the past, but for four to compete in one season is a great achievement

The event sees the very best runners from counties across England competing at junior, intermediate and senior levels, with each county bringing their best eight runners.

Freddie B, in D, has burst onto the scene this season and has impressed throughout the term over short and long distances. At the English Schools’ Championships, Freddie ran a 4km race. He finished as Dorset’s 1st placed runner – 77th out of a field of 345 runners, in an incredibly fast time of 13mins 37secs. He has a very bright future indeed and we look forward to a summer term of track training and competitions with Freddie.

Harry H, a well established intermediate runner with a strong record in both cross country and athletics, is in the form of his life, and gave one of his best performances in recent years. Harry ran a 6km race and finished as Dorset’s 3rd placed runner – 186th out of a field of 338 runners, in a time of 20mins 35secs.

Also competing in the intermediate race was Toby K, a late call from Dorset to be included in the final eight, and a great achievement for him, following strong runs at King’s Park and Truro to qualify.  Toby has managed this despite running not being his primary sport, which makes his selection and performance even more impressive – he is a natural talent. Toby ran his 6km in a time of 22mins14secs, finishing 8th for Dorset and 228th out of the 338 starters.

In his final season and year at Bryanston, Thore G ran for the Dorset senior team – an outstanding group of athletes.  Thore has been on top form this season, showing he has pace as well as incredible endurance (he is the youngest finisher in the history of the Spartathlon, a 246km race from Athens to Sparta). Thore ran a 7.2km race, finishing 5th for Dorset in a time of 25mins 54secs, and 228th out of 324 runners.

We are immensely proud of these four superb athletes. They are an inspiration to future generations of Bryanston runners.
