Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award pupils completed their walking and kayaking expeditions towards the end of last term with fantastic results.
Congratulations to the 17 pupils who completed their Gold DofE Award walking expedition in July. It was with some trepidation that the groups started off, as the weather building up to the expedition was particularly wet and stormy. After the now traditional soaking on day one, the weather improved and clear summit views were enjoyed by all on the tops of some of the highest mountains in England and Wales.
Feedback from the assessor was very complimentary and the pupils finished their expeditions with a great sense of team spirit and togetherness, which is a testament to their determination and resolve. Well done!
Eight A2 pupils also completed their kayaking expedition around the island of Arran. The trip had its fair share of wildlife, including otters, seals, porpoises and dolphins. The weather was different each day and the pupils faced everything from beautiful Scottish sunshine, to a storm force headwind that lead to sickness in some team members. It was a memorable trip for all involved and was wonderfully organised by Dave Simpson.
