Bryanston riders win at the National Schools Equestrian Championships

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, 11 Bryanston pupils took their horses to Addington Manor Equestrian Centre where the National Equestrian Championships takes place each year.

Every rider competing at the Championships had been placed either first or second in a prior competition in order to qualify and there were approximately 45 school teams consisting of four riders in each of the classes.

On the first day of the competition, the Bryanston team of Oliver P, Francesca G, Sophie M and Olli HW won the 1.05m jumping class. The whole team rode spectacularly, using brilliant jump off techniques practised in training and demonstrated in competition.

Later that day Julian H rode with Oliver, Sophie and Francesca to achieve an amazing second place in the 1.10m jumping class.

The Bryanston riders managed to achieve all of this despite an unfortunate stabling error that saw them having to stable off site at a local stud 10 miles away, which meant getting up very early each day to walk the show jump course at 7.30am. Most riders and their parents slept in lorries and trailers for several days.

Debbie Follett, Equestrian Centre Manager at Bryanston, said, "I am proud of all the pupils who rode at the championships and feel that the training that was put in on a daily basis with pupils and their horses has really paid off, especially after winning earlier in the year at Stonar ISODE and now at the National Championships. I would also like to thank all the parents for their support over the weekend, without them this would not be possible."

Huge congratulations to all the riders involved and you can read a full report of all the teams at the event here.
