Bryanston Sixth Formers teach Latin to pupils at The Blandford School

We are delighted to welcome eleven pupils from The Blandford School who are keen to learn Latin for the first time and study aspects of the ancient world.
Caecilius est in horto – the importance of Latin today - for Bryanston and The Blandford School pupils
There has been somewhat of a recent revival of Latin in schools across the country and Bryanston has, for many years, been teaching pupils from The Blandford School who are keen to expand on their language learning.
This term, Bryanston Sixth Formers, supported by Classics Teacher Doc Fearnley, are delivering weekly lessons to younger pupils from The Blandford School.
Doc Fearnley commented: “Classics is such an enriching subject, and our study of Latin enables us to explore many aspects of history, drama and politics in ancient Rome and to make important comparisons with our modern world.”
Bryanston’s Freya P, who is applying to Oxbridge for Classics, has found that teaching Classics requires not only a solid understanding of the language but careful organisation and classroom management. Freya has also learnt lots herself about Pompeii!
Bryanston’s Ivor D and Fiona M have also been teaching the class and said that it was really exciting to introduce pupils to a whole new language and culture.
