Football to 'kick-off' at Bryanston

As of the next academic year, football will become our key field sport during the Spring term.

Football will join our list of core sports that includes rugby, hockey, equestrian, netball, cricket and rowing, and will run alongside other sports such as tennis, kayaking, cross-country running, squash and swimming.

Each term, pupils are able to select a core sport and an expansion sport option to allow pupils to do multiple sports and/or specialise in their chosen sport; allowing ‘individual spirit’ to flourish via the ability to tailor a co-curricular programme.

Deputy Head Co-Curricular Andrew Murfin, a former professional footballer and UEFA B Coach, commented: “The demand for football is high and so a sporting programme that harnesses football and rugby as our key field sports (for boys) during the winter is both an exciting and logical step.

“Bryanston has a reputation for sporting excellence with our outstanding facilities and willingness to nurture sporting talent through our Performance Sport Programme (PSP). Our excellent and varied offer provides an enriched sporting diet for Bryanstonians and we’re delighted to be adding football to the mix.”

Football is the most popular sport in the world and has over the last decade mushroomed within independent schools with over 100 senior and prep schools registered with ISFA (Independent Schools Football Association).

Football is already a popular feature of our co-curricular programme as an ECA and expansion sport, and we have recently run our first football camp as part of our holiday club programme. We hope to make further announcements in the future with regards to professional partners and related developments, so watch this space!
