Pupil awarded scholarship prize in Immerse Education Essay Competition

A3 pupil Elliott C entered his Physics essay into The Immerse Education Essay Competition and as a result, has been awarded a 20% scholarship prize.

Below is an extract taken from Elliott’s essay, entitled ‘Why is Physics important?’

‘Physics has unlocked hidden phenomena, providing launch pads for progress on which our framework for modern society is built. We have continued to strive forwards, making new discoveries and advancing humankind with ever more powerful and sophisticated machines and technologies. Our powerful knowledge of physics has turned the idea of civilisations on other planets from science fiction into a not-so-distant reality. Not only will this ensure the survival of the human race, but it will also provide opportunities for further space exploration and experimentation. But before we venture away from Earth it will allow us to solve our most pressing problems and continue to thrive and enjoy the luxuries of our world.’

Further to his keen interest in science, Elliott has set up his own blog: ‘EAC Interests’, where he shares thoughts on sports, science and more. You can read his essay ‘Why is Physics important?’ in full on his blog, here.

The Immerse Education Essay Competition provides the opportunity for highly ambitious students aged 13-18 to submit essay responses to a pre-set question relating to their chosen subject. Participants have the opportunity to win a scholarship prize to participate in an Immerse Summer School programme at Oxford or Cambridge.

Headmaster Mark Mortimer commented: “This is excellent news for Elliott and well deserved. I was very impressed with his essay, found it thought-provoking and articulate, and look forward to reading it in a school assembly in due course. I am sure it will inspire pupils.”
