English Department hosts short story competition for D pupils

The English Department organised a short story competition for Ds in the Autumn term. Pupils were given the opportunity to complete a piece of creative writing, 500 words maximum, as an assignment.

The short story competition has become an annual event in the D calendar and Bryanston’s Librarian Mrs Minter and Head of English Mrs Weatherby, had the pleasure of reading and judging the entries from each class.

This year, Teacher of English Miss Page arranged for all D English sets to base their story around a chosen image (below) or to use the following line as the first sentence of their story: ‘The same story, all over again.

The entries for the short story competition were imaginative, topical and entertaining. The winners received certificates and prizes, and met Headmaster Mark Mortimer in recognition for their outstanding short stories.
