Whole school inter-house Fun Run a huge success

Ending Week 1 on a high for our pupils, we hosted a Fun Run for the whole school at the weekend.

All of the houses took part and although the emphasis was on the pupils having fun, we did time the houses. The fastest were Allan and Connaught respectively, with Cranborne winning the battle of the Ds’ Houses.

We were able to hold the event in a socially distanced manner thanks to our 400-acre estate, enabling pupils and staff to appropriately spread out. It was wonderful to have the whole school taking part and enjoying being active in the late summer sunshine.

Head of Cross Country Nick Payne commented: “It was amazing to see all of the houses taking part and although there were some apprehensive runners, they all got stuck in and supported one another to complete the course. Brilliant team spirit!

"We kept to our bubbles by ensuring that each house started on their own line at a different point along the course. The lap time only stopped on the last runner to return to their line. Therefore, lots of encouragement, support and camaraderie exhibited. What I had not envisioned, and to my delight, was that a lot of the senior pupils ran extra laps with the lower year groups.”

Deputy Head Co-Curricular Andrew Murfin commented: “It was wonderful to see everyone come together in a common pursuit for the first Fun Run of the term. We plan to run a series of inter-house events to help strengthen community spirit after the period of lockdown.”
