shanghai education bureau learns from bryanston's creativity

The visitors were hosted by Bryanston on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 October, with an overarching aim of demonstrating how the School develops creativity in its pupils. The Shanghai Education Bureau chose Bryanston specifically for this visit, thanks to its outstanding reputation for creativity.

As part of a four-year project known as The Creativity Lab, The Shanghai Education Bureau is working closely with selected schools, including Bryanston, to allow more creativity in the classroom.

Over the two-day visit, the Shanghai teachers experienced:

• a presentation from Headmaster Mark Mortimer
• a tour of the school from Bryanston’s Chinese pupils
• an introduction to the Bryanston Academic System with International Relations Manager Edrys Barkham
• an introduction to Bryanston’s eChart and assessment system with Director of Technology Andrew Barnes
• an introduction to delivering a creative curriculum with Deputy Head Academic David James
• a discussion with Old Bryanstonians on creative careers, including acting, interior design and art
• observation of a variety of different lessons and shadowing assigned lessons.

This week’s visit followed Edrys Barkham’s trip to Shanghai in August earlier this year to deliver three days of teacher training. Edrys commented: “We hope that the visiting teachers will be able to take ideas, activities and approaches to learning from Bryanston back to China and make them their own.”
