High-grade performing in the D Scholars' Concert

The D Scholars’ Concert took place on Wednesday 20 June in the Elder Concert Hall.

This was a step up for the D pupils as they had only ever performed solos in the smaller recital room, so they had use of the Steinway piano and needed to project their performances in the larger space of the concert hall. It was one of the most impressive D Scholars' Concerts to have taken place and congratulations to all of the performers - this was high-grade performing indeed!

Lewis H started the concert with Tchaikovsky’s No. 6 from The Seasons: “June” Barcarolle on the piano. Samuel A played Misty by Garner arr. Darrol from memory on the trumpet. Otis S performed Auburn by Stuart Ryan on the acoustic guitar. William SJB played Handel’s piano piece Allegro. Lewis returned to perform the oboe piece Romance by Nielsen. Conrad E performed an extract from Debussy’s Arabesque No. 1.

Eliza H played Black Eyes - Trad. Russian on the violin. Samuel returned to sing It was a lover and his lass by Quilter. Conrad returned to play The Carnival of Venice by Round on the trumpet. William returned to end the concert with a transcription by John Harle of Bach’s Sonata in G minor: Ist movement played on the saxophone.

Thank you to all the performers and as always to the accompanists - William Ings, Graham Scott and Matthew Shenton.
