Andrew Haviland
The Rev Canon Andrew Haviland was Chaplain and Head of Philosophy and Religious Studies until the summer of 2019. He came to Bryanston in 2008 after 14 years at the comprehensive school in Cranleigh, where latterly he was Assistant Headteacher, responsible for the pastoral and academic welfare of the upper school pupils. He was ordained in 2005 after training at STETS and served his curacy at St John’s North Holmwood in Surrey.
As a pupil, Canon Haviland attended Eastbourne College, before undertaking a BEd Hons in Theology & Religious Studies with Education at The College of Ripon and York St John (University of Leeds). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Christ Ministry and Mission.
He was the first school chaplain in the Salisbury diocese to be made a Canon and, on his departure from the diocese to become Senior Chaplain to Epsom College, he was appointed Canon Emeritus.
One of Andrew’s joys in life is music. It was through the BBC Symphony Chorus that Andrew met his wife, Jo, a senior medical statistician. They have three sons, George, James and Charlie. Spending time with his family is one of his favourite ‘off-duty’ activities as well as walking his dog, alongside sailing, clay-pigeon shooting and reading.
