Bryanston String Department brings pupils together through music
During the lockdown period, Bryanston String Department has been busy looking for ways to bring pupils together in music making.
On Thursday 18 June, we welcomed Chris Woods to lead two online guitar workshops. The workshop provided the opportunity for a class of guitarists to explore a variety of exciting guitar percussive techniques and there was even time to develop improvisation skills.
A week later, string pupils were delighted to welcome Ruth O'Shea back who led two online string workshops on Tuesday 23 June. A total of 24 string pupils enthusiastically engaged in these sessions, which included fantastic warm-up exercises and an exploration of Ruth's arrangement of the spiritual 'Steal Away', which adeptly and appropriately challenged every pupil.
We would like to send a huge thank you to Chris and Ruth for providing inspiring ways of collaborating over the screen. Pupils left their sessions keen to share their discoveries with their instrumental teachers.
