TALKS AND LECTURES

Older pupils benefit from a wide range of stimulating talks on classical subjects by visiting experts, both at Bryanston, and those organised by the Salisbury Classical Association, of which we are an active member.

Talks in the 2018/19 year included Dr Llewelyn Morgan giving a seminar on Virgil's Aeneid book 10, followed by a talk entitled 'Virgil's Iliad', and Dr Adrian Kelly on 'Odysseus the Epic hero.' Internally we organise ‘Classical Symposia’ at which pupils can hear and themselves contribute presentations on aspects of classical culture which they have researched. Recent topics have ranged from early philosophical understandings of the world, early Greek music, the nature of Greek democracy and the influence of Greek art on later artists. This experience proves invaluable for those considering a classical subject at university.
