Bryanstonians celebrate an excellent set of A level results

Against a backdrop of reform and changes to A levels in 2017, Bryanston pupils have, with support from their dedicated teachers, worked hard to achieve an excellent set of results and gain places at top universities in the UK and overseas.
Across the year group the number of pupils achieving the top grades is up with 33 pupils celebrating at least one A*, six of whom achieved three or more A*s, and 16 pupils gaining straight A*/A results.
There were impressive results across a broad range of both legacy and reformed subjects, including Spanish (100% A*-A), Design and Technology (85.7% A*-B), Mathematics (80.6% A*-B), English Literature (77.8% A*-B), Chemistry (76.5% A*-B), Fine Art (75.0% A*-B) and Religious Studies (75.0% A*-B).
Deputy Head (Academic), Dr David James, commented, “At a time when so many A levels were being reformed, and made more challenging, our pupils and staff did tremendously well.”
The vast majority of pupils have been accepted by their first choice of university. Bryanston prides itself on placing pupils at the university best suited to their unique abilities and this year is no exception. We have seen places taken up to study courses ranging from Criminology at York, Natural Sciences at Cambridge, Fine Art at the Slade, as well as Medicine, Computer Science and Engineering. Our pupils are again leaving us to study at a range of universities, both in the Russell Group and at other highly-regarded institutions like St Andrews, Bath, Lancaster, Sussex and Surrey. We have also seen a growth in pupils electing to study abroad, with recent OBs being accepted at institutions as far afield as Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States.
Bryanston Head, Sarah Thomas, congratulated the year group saying, "This set of results is a ringing endorsement of our pupils and the teachers who taught them. I’m delighted to see the remarkable success of this year group and they should all be proud of their achievements. As they move on to the next exciting stage of their lives, I wish them all the best in the future.”
These results come after another strong set of IB results in which Bryanston pupils achieved an excellent average diploma score of 35 and an increase in the number of top grades in individual subjects.
