School Life - Theatre
The School's theatre, the Coade Hall, is the centre of considerable dramatic activity. This superbly equipped theatre has a raked auditorium seating 600, a fly tower, a large stage, an orchestra pit and a sophisticated system of stage lighting and sound.
Pupils act in at least 15 plays a year and they also direct and produce during the annual House and Lower Sixth Form Drama Festivals. There are two major School productions each year and one of these is usually a musical. For the younger pupils, an active and popular Junior Dramatic Society meets weekly and stages one or two productions a year. Pupils who join the stage management crew learn how to handle the equipment, how to design, light and costume a production and how to manage front-of-house. Theatre Studies is offered in the Sixth Form and pupils take the LAMDA acting examinations.
The Coade Hall also provides a venue for professional actors, comedians and musicians and for local amateur companies. Members of the public are welcome at all such productions and at many school productions too.
Bryanston also has an outdoor Greek Theatre which provides a magical open-air setting for music and drama during the summer months.
