School Life - Spiritual Values
Christian inspiration and Christian ideals are fundamental to the Bryanston philosophy, but the School recognises that pupils may come from homes which follow other faiths or have no strong religious affiliation. Church attendance is therefore voluntary.
On most Sundays, pupils have a choice between an assembly in the Coade Hall, with an address by a visiting speaker, and a celebration of the Eucharist in the school church. The atmosphere is very much that of a lively Parish Communion, at which parents are always welcome. Musically the church is very well supported, both by a large variety of School choirs and also, on occasions, by instrumental ensembles.
The school also has a chapel, located in the basement of the main building, which is a place of warmth and peace, regularly used by pupils for private prayer or simply as a place in which to be quiet. First Year pupils meet here once a week to be prepared for that freedom of choice in worship which is the normal Bryanston pattern. Chapel is also used during the week for informal Eucharists, study groups and prayers.
The School's Chaplaincy is fully involved with the pastoral care of the community and prepares pupils of any age for Confirmation. Although the School is an Anglican foundation, pupils of all denominations are welcome at the Eucharist and Roman Catholics may also attend mass in Blandford. Our aim is to offer pupils a regular experience of genuine, committed Christian worship, in which all are free to join. For many, this experience remains an enduring part of their time at Bryanston.
