Bryanston Parents' Association
The Bryanston Parents’ Association (BPA) has been in existence for many years, seeking to develop links between current parents and the school. It is a parents’, not a parent-teacher association, and all parents are members of the BPA unless they specifically opt out. The work of the BPA is three-fold: allocating grants, enhancing links between the parents and the school and responding to influences and initiatives beyond the mainstream.
Grants
The BPA allocates grants from the termly subscription to a wide range of adventurous, social and creative projects. Recent grants range from chess sets for the Chess Club and pictures for the school houses, to funding the D-time ceilidh and the Caterham 7 kit car and, of course, the impressive new climbing tower.
Forging Links & Responding to Initiatives
At the start of every autumn term the BPA is on hand with an informal presence to meet new parents and pupils. The “ABC for Parents” booklet, compiled by the BPA Chairman, Roger Parkes, has proved a popular and useful guidebook to the school for all parents.
The BPA AGM
This is followed by the AGM, held on the Saturday morning before the start of the half term. This is a lively session open to all parents where the Head gives a short up-date on school life, followed by a brief question and answer session. In addition, a seminar on topics such as “Alcohol, Getting the Balance” may be arranged for parents. All parents are welcome and indeed encouraged to attend before departing with their children. We look forward to seeing you there!
The BPA is also present at the annual Nepal Fair, hosting drinks for parents before the firework display.
In the Summer Term, the BPA provides a reception for parents at the Summer Concert.
The Committee
Meetings are held on the second Saturday of each term, attended by the Head and the Bursar. The elected committee of 12 includes 2 two staff members (with children currently at the school) and a posse of parents representing an even mix of mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. The names and contact numbers of the Committee members appear in the School List.
The BPA also works to foster close links with the Bryanston Society, through which a lifelong association with the school is maintained.
